Nutricosmetics a booming market! Global Industry Analysts just released a report the on the rapidly growing category of Nutricosmetics. Analysts predict this category of products to reach a global market growth of 4.24 billion by 2017. Analysts state Nutricosmetics are gaining popularity due to increasing consumer desire to go beyond conventional beauty solutions. Factors such as increasing awareness among consumers, rising number of aging population, inclination towards less invasive beauty treatments, emergence of the ‘spa culture’ and environmental and societal pressures are likely to drive future acceleration. At a time when conventional cosmetic and food companies are facing the challenge of understanding complex customer needs, nutricosmetics are providing the ideal solution.
Cherries to the rescue?
As we hear a lot about chronic inflammation and it’s deteriorating effect it can have on our health, there is a new hot “anti inflammatory food” to check out. Move over pomegranate, cherries are making a big splash lately as a top antioxidant!
As noted in a post by Dr. Leo Galland, a study from University of California found that regular consumption of cherries for 28 days produced a decrease in biochemical signs of inflammation (C-reactive protein) in blood. A presentation at the American College of Sports Medicine Conference found that drinking tart cherry juice helped reduce pain after exercise for long distance runners. They stated “considering the natural anti-inflammatory and antioxidant capacity of tart cherries, it is plausible that cherry consumption before and during strenuous exercise may have a protective effect to reduce muscle damage and pain.” Another study from the University of California at Davis found that a single dose of cherries reduced the blood level of uric acid in healthy women. Excess uric acid causes gout, a very painful type of arthritis. The use of cherries to prevent gout is well established in Western folk medicine.
